safety

safety.jpg

Your safety is our primary concern.   You will be given an emergency number to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  In case of any problems, we are here to help.

Normally Siem Reap is a safe destination, but we do have some crime.  Please follow our safety recommendations to avoid any problems.

  1. Keep all valuables, like purse, phone or laptop in a backpack or in the zippered handlebar bag on the bicycle we provide. People carrying around shoulder bags are vulnerable to bag snatchers.

  2. When traveling late at night, we recommend bicycling in a group, especially if the road is quiet. If that is not an option we recommend using a local Tuk Tuk to get home.

  3. Bus transportation - daytime only. Night buses in Cambodia are notoriously dangerous. We recommend Giant Ibis for most destinations in Cambodia or for travel to Thailand.

  4. Hitchhiking is not common in Cambodia and not allowed while you are volunteering for Naga Earth.

  5. All volunteers who rent a house or room in Cambodia are required to have a Naga Earth representative check out the rental to make sure we consider it a safe location.

  6. All volunteers will need to fill out an emergency contact form prior to starting work.

  7. Volunteers are required to have medical insurance.

  8. Please consider bringing your own bicycle helmet. While not required, it is highly recommended and the bicycle helmets available in Siem Reap are not high quality.

  9. Avoid mosquito bites. It is possible to get malaria or dengue in Siem Reap. The best thing is to wear appropriate clothing and to remember to put on mosquito repellent during wet season.
